Wearing the right sports bra is key to whether you jog, jump, twist or stretch.

Finding the right fit will not only make you feel comfortable but will also keep your chest secure and help you perform better.

Wondering how to choose a sports bra that suits you? Here's what you need to know to find the right type of sports bra.

WHY IS A GOOD SPORTS BRA SO IMPORTANT?

A good sports bra that fits well and has the correct support level will allow you to get the most out of your workout. It should offer support and comfort. Your sports bra should fit your body type and provide the right support for the type of workout you're doing.

HOW TO CHOOSE A SPORTS BRA THAT SUITS ME?

The type of sports bra that you wear is a personal decision. We suggest selecting a sports bra based on cup size and the activity you want to use it for.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPORTS BRA?

Picking the right type of sports bra is generally defined by impact level and silhouette. Impact level is defined as high, medium, and low.

LOW IMPACT BRA

For workouts such as yoga, pilates, and barre

MID IMPACT BRA

For workouts such as strength training, dance, or cycling

HIGH IMPACT BRA

For workouts such as running or high-intensity training

SILHOUETTES OF SPORTS BRAS

The three main silhouettes for sports bras are strappy, racerback & longline.

  • Strappy and longline bras generally lend themselves better to smaller sizes and low-impact activities.
  • Racerback is a versatile silo that can offer medium to high-impact support for all chest sizes, especially bigger sizes.

We cover various types of sports bras based on support, sport, and style.

DO SPORTS BRAS HAVE THE SAME SIZES AS EVERYDAY BRAS?

Typically, low and medium-impact support bras are sized in alpha sizes (XS-XL). The larger the cup and band size, the larger the alpha size should be. In general, 30A-32C would be EXTRA SMALL, 32B-34C would be SMALL, 34B-36D would be MEDIUM, 34C-36D would be LARGE, and 36D-36DD would be EXTRA LARGE.

As you can see, there is some overlap in cup/band sizes, so it's important to always try on your sports bra first.

WHAT SIZE OF SPORTS BRA DO I NEED?

Your sports bra size depends on cup size, activity, preferred impact level and style preference. Additional features to consider are strap width, strap adjustability and coverage.

For larger cup sizes, high-impact support often offers coverage and comfort during most activities. Typically high-impact styles offer more coverage and wider straps. The wider the strap the more stable the bra will be. Racerback styles are most common in this impact level and offer the most versatility for larger cup sizes. For running and high-intensity training, reducing bounce and friction is key as well as comfort and breathability.

For medium to small cup sizes, the activity and preferred style will affect the size. Generally, a racerback silhouette will offer medium to high impact support for running and high-intensity training. This type of sports bra offers the most versatile silhouette for a large variety of workouts. For yoga and low-impact activities, a flexible fabric, ease of movement, breathability, and thinner strap designs are the things to look for.

ARE THERE ANY TIPS TO ENSURE THE RIGHT FIT?

Sports bras should be snug but comfortable to move in. When looking for the right fit be sure to move around (e.g. jog in place or do a couple of stretches) and make sure you feel both secure and comfortable.

HOW TO CHOOSE A SPORTS BRA FOR A LARGER BUST?

For larger sizes, high-impact support often offers coverage and comfort during most activities. Wider straps, higher coverage, and racerback with adjustability are good details to consider when choosing your bras. Be sure to try on different types of sports bras to find what is best for you.

WHAT MAKES PUMA BRAS UNIQUE?

Puma sports bras are designed with high quality materials and trims with considered details that make them a step above the rest. PUMA goes the extra mile to classify each bra on impact level based on fabric, elastic strengths, strap widths and silhouettes.

HOW SHOULD I WASH MY PUMA SPORTS BRA?

Please use only a mild detergent.

Wash your sports bra inside out and with other clothes of similar colours.

Do not iron print and do not use fabric softener.

Check the care instructions on the inside tag of each sports bra for product-specific instructions.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY SPORTS BRA?

Our sports bras are high quality and should last a long time. The timing depends on wear and tear and how often they are washed.

HOW MANY SPORTS BRAS DO I NEED?

You should have sports bras that you are comfortable wearing during a variety of activities and workouts. In general, three to five types of sports bras should cover the range of low to high impact and strappy to longline silos. A versatile medium impact bra can provide a solution for various workouts and activities, while other bras might be necessary for more specific exercises like running, training or yoga.

IS IT OK TO WEAR A SPORTS BRA EXCLUSIVELY EVERY DAY?

It’s up to you. Bras are a personal choice and should make you feel secure, comfortable, and confident. All types of sports bras at PUMA are designed for all-day comfort.
