PRODUCT STORY
The BMW Art Cars project was born by inviting an artist to create a canvas on an automobile. Here is Alexander Calder BMW Art Car 1975. In the 1970s, BMW and French auctioneer and racecar driver Hervé Poulain commissioned Calder to paint a design on a BMW 3.0 CSL to be raced at Les 24 Heures du Mans. The use of differing colours within the individual elements of the car’s structure adds to the illusion of movement. As with his mobiles and stabiles, Calder's BMW Art Car speaks to his interest in the social activation of sculpture and the dynamic power of gesture and colour.
